Gardening is my other passion!

Mixed-Media Fiber Art

The assemblages I began creating in the 80s relied on juxtaposing found, altered, and created objects. Exploring social, environmental, and religious issues in a crafted shadowbox or as free-standing sculpture gave me the creative freedom to incorporate any medium. When interest in textiles grew to be a primary focus, it only seemed natural to continue incorporating found objects and take a mixed-media approach.

The textile-inspired fabrications I’m currently making with needle and thread are the result of this creative progression. An introduction to a local historical society peaked my interest in exploring social history through material culture. Women's social history as seen through their needlework and Victorian crafts continues to influence my current body of work. I find by using found objects and vintage textiles that there is added meaning through memory and association.

The fiber art world is an amazing journey!
